When Augusta National announced it was allowing its course to be included in Electronic Arts’ Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2012 video game, the golf world exploded with glee at the prospect of not having to win the media lottery, know a member or be Woods Is Associated With Nicklaus In Masters a member to even sniff playing the fabled track. Seems like the excitement from that announcement has carried over into sales of the game.First week sales of the title were the highest in the 14-year history of the franchise, according to the game maker.Compared with highly lagging sales last year at the height of Woods’ public scandal about his personal misgivings, sales for the same week in 2011 were up 200% over 2010.Additionally, sales of the title designed for iPhone and iPad users (hey, how about us Android fans?) grossed the most of any sports app in the opening week of availability. And that’s without having Augusta National in that version of the game.The story will become more interesting after sales numbers come out following the buzz of an incredible Masters tournament. Will a fascinating and scintillating tournament boost sales more? How about Tiger contending on Sunday?
